Artist Spotlight: Jan Gosnell
Jan Gosnell is one of the artists whose work helps define the character of Fenix Arts. With a B.F.A. from the University of Texas and an M.F.A. from the University of Arkansas, Jan has spent decades exploring a wide range of art roles: picture painter, university instructor, gallery owner, commercial art director, movie sketch artist, editorial cartoonist, and author/illustrator.
Now based in Fayetteville, Jan continues to paint with a strong sense of place—and of imagination. His work often blends narrative undertones with bold visual statements: a color palette that grabs attention, lines that guide the eye, and themes that hint at memory, myth, and identity. Whether in large-scale paintings or more intimate pieces, there is in Jan’s work a persistent curiosity about human experience and the landscapes—both internal and external—that shape us.
